Selling a taxi in India is mostly about paperwork. Commercial vehicles carry more documents than private cars, and a serious buyer will check every one. Having a complete, valid set ready signals that you are a genuine seller, speeds up the deal, and protects you from any liability after the sale.
The Essential Documents Checklist
- RC Book (Registration Certificate) — must show you as the current registered owner
- Commercial Permit — valid and covering the vehicle's operating zone
- Fitness Certificate — mandatory for all commercial vehicles and must be current
- Insurance Certificate — a valid commercial (not private) policy
- PUC Certificate — Pollution Under Control, must be current
- Road Tax Receipts — proof that state road tax is paid up to date
- CNG Endorsement / Kit Certificate — if the vehicle runs on CNG
- Loan NOC — No Objection Certificate from the bank if the vehicle was financed
RTO Transfer Forms You Will Need
To legally transfer ownership, both buyer and seller complete a few standard forms at the RTO:
- Form 29 — Notice of transfer of ownership (two copies, signed by the seller)
- Form 30 — Application for transfer, signed by both buyer and seller
- Form 35 and bank NOC — only if a loan/hypothecation was on the vehicle
- Clearance certificate — if selling to a buyer in another state
Why the NOC Matters Most
If your taxi was bought on a loan, the bank holds a hypothecation entry on the RC. You cannot legally complete the transfer until you get a No Objection Certificate from the lender confirming the loan is cleared. Start this 1–2 weeks before listing, as banks can take 7–14 days to issue an NOC.
Protect Yourself After the Sale
Until the RC transfer is recorded at the RTO, the vehicle is legally still in your name — including any traffic fines or accidents. Always file Form 29 immediately and keep a copy of the delivery note signed by the buyer. Never hand over the vehicle before payment clears in your account.
List With Documents Ready
When you list on Buy Sell Taxi, mention which documents are valid and until when. Listings with clear, complete paperwork attract serious buyers and close noticeably faster than those with gaps.
