Most taxi buying guides stop at the Innova. Above it sits a segment almost nobody writes about: the executive sedan, run on corporate retainers, embassy contracts and premium airport transfers. The Toyota Camry is the default vehicle in that segment, and a used one is far more affordable than operators assume.
Used Camry Taxi Price in India (2026)
- 2015–2017 Camry Hybrid, 80,000–1,20,000 km: ₹9,00,000–12,00,000
- 2018–2019 Camry Hybrid, 60,000–90,000 km: ₹13,00,000–17,00,000
- 2013–2015 petrol (non-hybrid) Camry: ₹6,50,000–9,00,000
- A unit already on a commercial yellow plate with a valid All India Tourist Permit carries a ₹40,000–80,000 premium, and it is usually worth paying
Depreciation is what makes this segment work. A Camry that sold new for ₹32 lakh trades at ₹10 lakh at eight years old, while its earning rate on a corporate contract barely drops — clients book the segment and the comfort, not the model year.
What an Executive Camry Actually Earns
- Corporate executive retainer, monthly with driver: ₹70,000–1,20,000 for 2,500–3,000 km
- Embassy and consulate contracts in Delhi: ₹85,000–1,40,000 per month, usually annual tenders with reliable payment
- Premium airport transfer, metro: ₹2,500–4,000 per run
- Wedding and event hire: ₹8,000–15,000 per day, seasonal but high margin
The critical difference from mass-market taxi work is contract length. Executive clients sign 12-month retainers and pay on invoice, which removes the daily hunt for rides that defines aggregator driving.
The Hybrid Advantage in a Heavy Sedan
The Camry Hybrid returns roughly 19 to 23 kmpl in real commercial conditions, which is remarkable for a 1,600 kg executive sedan and better than most compact diesel taxis. At city speeds the electric motor handles a large share of the running, so the worst-case scenario for fuel — crawling traffic and long idling outside an office — is exactly where it performs best.
At roughly ₹4.5 to ₹5 per kilometre in fuel, a Camry costs less to run than a Crysta diesel while commanding two to three times the tariff.
What to Inspect on a Used Camry Taxi
- Hybrid battery: request the Toyota hybrid health report. Replacement outside warranty is ₹1,50,000–2,50,000, which is the single largest risk in this purchase
- Suspension and underbody: executive sedans have low ground clearance and Indian speed breakers punish them. Check for repeated underbody repair, cracked lower arms and leaking dampers
- Interior condition: this is a comfort-segment vehicle and clients notice. Worn leather, faded trim or a tired headliner directly reduce the contracts you can win
- Permit and plate status: confirm the yellow plate, valid fitness certificate and AITP if you intend to run interstate executive trips
Is It the Right First Commercial Vehicle?
Honestly, usually not. The executive segment rewards operators who already have corporate relationships or can win a tender, because the vehicle only pays when it is on a retainer rather than chasing street rides. As a second or third vehicle for an operator with an existing corporate client list, it is one of the highest-margin purchases available in the Indian commercial market.
